I Had the privilege of meeting a legend...

Have you ever wished you had a chance to meet one of the great minds of the past?
If you were given such a chance, lets say to travel back in time, would you have seen him as a master, would you have believed his discoveries, would you have learned from him, or would you have been part of the masses that criticized him?
Take for instance someone like the Italian, Galileo. He discovered that the Sun does not rotate around the Earth, but that it was the other way around. His discovery was in conflict to a cornerstone belief of the establishment of his time for centuries before. When he dared to challenge this dearly held belief, he was in deep trouble. He appeared before the Roman Inquisition and had to recant his discoveries. Now, many centuries later it is laughable to even consider the modern science without his discoveries.
Ignaz Semmelweis was a Hungarian physician whose work demonstrated that hand-washing could drastically reduce the number of women dying after childbirth from infections. Semmelweis figured out where the problem lay and introduced rigorous hand-washing rules in the maternity ward. Deaths were drastically reduced and Semmelweis became known as the ‘saviour of the mothers’.
Sadly, Semmelweiss was committed to an insane asylum because of the fact that his peers did not want to believe his evidence.
Today again, many years later, ALL doctors are aware of the importance of sterile hands when operating or when giving an injection for example.
Closer to the modern age are people like Royal Raymond Rife, Emanuel Revici, Max Gerson, Johanna Budwig - people who discovered ways to cure and destroy the deadly disease of cancer. Again their new ideas was not received favourably by their peers, not because they had no proof, no facts, no results, but because they challenged the status quo. Today thousands of people have been healed by their systems, but most of it is still denied by the powers that be, or much of what they had discovered is lost.
I would have LOVED to have learned at the feet of these masters!
Then there IS Dr. Tullio Simoncini
A year of two ago I discovered his work by pure ‘chance’.
I started researching his work, bought his book and found it most fascinating.
His theory is that cancer is a fungus.  He theorized that because you can cure thrush in a baby’s mouth with Sodium Bicarbonate, it could possibly work with other fungi as well.
He was right! So for many years now he is successfully treating all cancers with Sodium Bicarbonate  - yes that’s right, good old baking soda!
In doing this he committed to grave sins. One, he actually can cure any cancer, and secondly, it costs virtually nothing.
You may ask what’s wrong with any of these? Well, it turns out that the manufacturers of very expensive (deadly ineffective) chemicals (called chemo therapy) as well as very astute cancer research institutions (Universities) would be without any income due to this simple solution to this deadly disease if an alternative cure was discovered.
So a plan was made, like with people like Dr. Royal Raymond Rife, Dr. Emanuel Revici, Dr. Max Gerson, Dr. Johanna Budwig. Shut the man down, immediately.
So Dr. Tullio Simoncini lost his license to practice medicine immediately!
All this sounds like science fiction to you, I don’t blame you a bit. But because I have done extensive research into natural medicine over period of more than fifteen years, I can assure you, this modus operandi runs like a golden thread though all great modern discoveries.
The standard procedure goes much like this:
  • Very well educated doctor leaves university.
  • After entering private practice, discovers that what he was taught, does not really heal people.
  • Doctor starts trying out different unconventional methods to help his suffering patients.
  • On one bright day he discovers a simple miracle cure for a terrible disease.
  • He tests it over and over, to make sure that what he discovered is in fact true.
  • He shares his discoveries with his superiors and peers.
  • Soon he is isolated from the professional circles and marginalized effectively.
  • False news paper articles or even $cientific papers appears to tell the story of yet another quack that has been exposed.
  • The doctor looses his license to practice medicine.
  • The doctor is disillusioned by the system and is forced to look at alternative ways to help people with his discovery, because he has a heart to help the suffering.
  • The doctor eventually dies and much of his discoveries and knowledge dies with him.

This is much the case of what happened with Dr. Tullio Simoncini.

The only difference is that the past week I had the privilege to meet the man in person. I can assure you that this full blood Italian doctor is everything but dead!

He engages in conversations with true Italian animated passion and absolute certainty. I found him to speak with authority and precise instruction while looking you straight in the eyes.
I was lucky to have long discussions with him on the why’s -  the why not’s - the do’s and the don’ts of his treatments.
I was able to look into the eyes of a true master at his art. I could experience his passion to help people, listen to his dreams of what he still wants to achieve! Most of all, I could ask all the questions I wanted to, and learn first hand from this great mind. I asked the kind of questions that you never get answers from, once the master is no longer around. The only interruptions we had was his cell phone ringing about every 10 minutes. People are constantly phoning from around the world to make appointments or ask for advice - he answered EVERY call, although each call cost him a minimum of EUR 20 (about R200) because of international roaming outside of the EU!

We also spent some relaxing times together, and showed Dr. Simoncini around the wonderful Cape. Here he is with Josua, CJ and Heidi-Mari at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. When I dropped him off at the airport, he greeted each of us with the typical Italian kiss on each cheek.

If you want to learn more about this remarkable man, and his quest to eradicate cancer, look at his website or get his book.

Burnt dog is treated with honey

A jar of local honey in the kitchen does more than sweeten tea or toasts, but works well on burns - skip the ice, aloe vera or anything else. It really works

BBC NEWS|

A dog which was pulled from a house fire in Cornwall is being treated with honey pads to help heal her wounds.
Lady, the alsatian was found stuck under burning ceiling tiles after the fire at her owner's home near Stithians.
The treatment of eight-year-old dog, who suffered severe burns down one side and on her back, includes pads impregnated with manuka honey.
Owner Cyril Bond, 77, said her condition had improved because of the treatment.
'Very impressed'
Lady was trapped for two hours before fireman rescued her from the burning building.
Mr Bond said he was given the good news that she survived after he was taken to hospital.
He said: "One of the nurses came over and said the police had been on the phone to say the fire brigade got her out and she was on oxygen."
She is thought to have survived because she found an air pocket.
As part of her treatment, which has been ongoing for several months, her bandages which contain honey-coated dressings, are replaced several times a week.
Vet Amanda Manley, who works at the Cornwall Animal Hospital, said she believed the honey had greatly improved Lady's condition.
"I'd like to say it's all down to the honey, but to make a proper judgement you need to have a scientific control.
"But I'm very impressed and I'd use it again in this situation."
The honey is produced by bees feeding on the Manuka bush, which mainly found in New Zealand.
Manuka dressings for wounds were licensed for use in NHS hospitals in 2004.

Honey, Bee Pollen Effective in Preventing Postoperative Intraabdominal Adhesions

though conducted on rats, the effects are thought to be a result of the products antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties...

The Effect of Oral Honey and Pollen on Postoperative Intraabdominal Adhesions
Turk J Gastroenterol, 2011 Feb;22(1):65-72

Background/aims: We evaluated the effect of oral usage of honey and pollen, either separately or together, on postoperative intraabdominal adhesions.

Methods: Forty rats were randomly separated into 4 groups of 10 rats each. Abrasion was performed on the cecum, and a patch of peritoneum located opposite to the cecal abrasion was completely dissected. Group 1 rats received no treatment; Group 2 rats received 4 g/kg/day honey; Group 3 rats received 4 g/kg/day pollen; and Group 4 rats received 4 g/kg/day honey and pollen mixed in equal amounts, in addition to the standard feeding for postoperative 21 days. All the rats were sacrificed on the 21st day.

Following the adhesion scoring, tissue specimens of the peritoneum and bowel were subjected to histopathological investigation. The tissue and blood specimens were also taken for biochemical analysis to investigate the antioxidant capacity.

Results: Adhesion scores were significantly different between the control and other groups. No dense adhesion was observed in the treatment groups. Tissue malondialdehyde levels were significantly different between the control and honey and honey+pollen groups. Superoxide dismutase and glutathione-peroxidase levels were significantly different between the control and other groups. Catalase levels were different between the control and honey groups. Plasma antioxidant levels were different between the control and other groups. The pathological scores for fibrosis and inflammation were significantly different between the control and other groups.

Conclusions: Honey and pollen were found to be effective in preventing postoperative intraabdominal adhesions, and these effects were thought to be a result of their antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Propolis Boost Immune Response

confirmed yet again that propolis boosts the immune system but this time stating 'on a cellular level'...

Propolis Boost Immune Response:
Cell Immunol, 2011 Apr 9
"Two experiments were carried out. In immune response test, the immune enhancement of propolis, oilemulsion and aluminium salt were compared in guinea pig vaccinated with inactivated porcine parvovirus (PPV) vaccine.
The result showed that three adjuvants could enhance antibody titer, T lymphocyte proliferation, IL-2 and IL-4 secretion of splenic lymphocyte. The action of propolis was similar to that of oilemulsion and superior to that of aluminium salt, especially in early period of vaccination propolis could accelerate antibody production.

In immune protection test, the effects of three adjuvants on PPV infection were compared in guinea pig vaccinated with PPV vaccine then challenged with PPV. The result showed that propolis and oilemulsion could enhance the antibody titer, IL-2 and IL-4 content in serum and decrease the PPV content in blood and viscera. In the effect of improving cellular immune response, the propolis was the best.

These results indicated that propolis possessed better immune enhancement and would be exploited into a effective adjuvant of inactivated vaccine."

Coniferous, Thyme Honeys Show Highest Antibacterial Activity

general rule of thumb, the darker the honey, the more effective its antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Notice the effect on Staphylococcus aureus...

Antibacterial Activity of Different Honeys Against Pathogenic Bacteria

Anaerobe, Article in Press
To study the antimicrobial activity of honey, 60 samples of various botanical origin were evaluated for their antimicrobial activities against 16 clinical pathogens and their respective reference strains. The microbiological quality of honeys and the antibiotic susceptibility of the various isolates were also examined.

The bioassay applied for determining the antimicrobial effect employs the well-agar diffusion method and the estimation of minimum active dilution which produces a 1 mm diameter inhibition zone.

All honey samples, despite their origin (coniferous, citrus, thyme or polyfloral), showed antibacterial activity against the pathogenic and their respective reference strains at variable levels.

Coniferous and thyme honeys showed the highest activity with an average minimum dilution of 17.4 and 19.2% (w/v) followed by citrus and polyfloral honeys with 20.8 and 23.8% respectively. Clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus subsp. aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica subsp.

Enterica, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus cereus and B. subtilis were proven to be up to 60% more resistant than their equal reference strains thus emphasizing the variability in the antibacterial effect of honey and the need for further research.

How safe is your medication? The FDA Exposed: An Interview With Dr. David Graham, the Vioxx Whistleblower

There's some riveting "whistle-blowing" stuff giving the inside story on how the American Food and Drug Administration are falling down in their job of ensuring that drugs allowed on the world-wide market are really effective, and, above all, safe to use, and that people are dying as a result-
at http://www.naturalnews.com/011401_Dr_David_Graham_the_FDA.html

The person doing the whistle-blowing is Dr David Graham, the top FDA epidemiologist (the branch of medicine that deals with the study of the causes, distribution, and control of disease in populations).

Four Simple Strategies to Help Maintain a Healthy Weight

There is no magic pill for weight loss. The best magic for weight management is weight maintenance. As with all things in life, moderation is the key. Here are four tips for moderation to help kick-start your spring health goals.

1. Do some type of exercise every day... preferably every morning

It is very easy to lie in bed having an internal dialogue: “It’s too cold. I could get sick”; “I’ll do it tonight after work”; or “If I go for a walk now, then I’ll be late for work.” Don’t think about it. Just pull yourself out of bed the second the alarm goes off. That’s right—don’t snuggle. Snuggling is not helpful. Just autopilot to the clothes that you left out the night before, open the door, and start walking. By the time your brain catches up, you will already have done 10 minutes.

2. Have lots of healthy foods available

It is much easier to make a healthy food choice when there are some healthy choices available! Make a big fruit salad to keep in the fridge for when you need a snack. Have some of your favorite veggies ready to eat when you are hungry. Make an extra-large salad at night and eat the leftovers for lunch the next day. Just leave the salad dressing on the side, otherwise your salad gets soggy.

3. Avoid TV

What is it about commercial breaks that trigger the munchies? Tape your favorite shows, then you can fast-forward the breaks. It works!

4. Indulge your mind, senses, and body with something other than food

Many of us love to cook, love eating out, love gourmet food stores. Break out of the food focus by pampering yourself in other ways. Take long aromatherapy baths with lots of bubbles. Get a hot rock massage. Curl up in front of a fire and read a book. Play with your cat or dog. Live life through things other than food!

Which moderation tips work best for you? Start a conversation and post your tips. You never know who you'll inspire!

How to Use Essential Oil in Your Home

You can incorporate essential oils into your everyday life by using them whenever you would use a commercial cleanser or air freshener. You may want to avoid using your precious essential oils, such as neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara) and rose attar (Rosa damascena), for cleaning and household purposes.

You do not need to invest in diffusers or other aromatherapy equipment, although they can be quick and easy ways to disperse essential oils into the air. The following suggestions do not require an investment in any equipment:
  • Use two or three drops on the filter pad of your vacuum cleaner to leave a refreshing aroma around your home as you do the housework.
  • Add two or three drops to the edge of the toilet roll before placing on the toilet roll holder.
  • Place a few drops on cotton balls that are distributed in drawers, wardrobes, closets, and cupboards. A good night's rest is ensured if placed into pillowcases. This will also help keep moths and insects out of linen.
  • Use as a room freshener. Pour directly on cotton balls and leave in a room. This is particularly good for freshening up a room that is stale with cigarette smoke or pet odors.
  • Sprinkle a few drops on potpourri to revive the original fragrance.
  • Sprinkle a few drops in and around drains, into the trash bin, compost bucket, toilet bowl, and in the dishwasher.
  • Add a few drops to the washing machine or dryer when doing laundry. For dryers, add the oil to a dry cloth and place it into the dryer along with the wet laundry.
  • Add a drop of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) to the water that you add to your steam iron or use a hydrosol.
  • You can use essential oils in every room in your house: kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom, laundry, and even in the garden.

The Case for Homeopathic Medicine: dealing with the medical fundamentalists and other crackpots

There are a good many "Medical Fundamentalist" doctors, and some "useful idiot" journalists (who couldn't find their way out of a paper bag as the saying goes) who call homeopathy "bogus" and go into auto-loop trotting out the hoary old myths about there being no evidence for it working or that it's no better than placebo, which means "dangerous" because it might put off people getting proper (conventional)(poisonous) medication etc etc. The other part of their auto-loop is that conventional medication is always backed up by the best "scientific evidence" (selectively chosen) and inconvenient side effects, including death, are to be ignored.

For these types Dana Ullman put together an article last August entitled "The Case for Homeopathic Medicine: Consider the Historical and Scientific Evidence" which can be found at
http://www.naturalnews.com/029419_homeopathic_medicine_evidence.html#ixzz1KZNBSErz

It's best when dealing with such crackpots not to indulge in time-wasting discussion with them but just to point them to such an article and tell them to read it. They won't of course, because they have no intention of changing their auto-loop mantras and their minds are closed.

And that would be fine if they confined themselves to poisoning their own minds and bodies and naturally thereby slowly selected themselves out of existence. The problem is that they are doing that for a lot of innocent people as well if they are conventional doctors, and those in the higher echelons are telling lies about other safe, natural healthcare therapies and attempting to use their influence to shaft them. That's criminal.

In 1542 Henry VIII was confronted by the Physicians and Surgeons wanting essentially a monopoly over treating patients and dispensing medications, and the suppression of the competition, which at that time was the herbalists. He took advice and found that the herbalists did a lot of good to the public treating a range of diseases for no payment, as compared with the Surgeons, who often did harm and yet demanded excessive payment. Much to the annoyance of the Physicians and Surgeons, he promptly passed the Herbalists Charter in 1543 to provide that "it shall be lawful to every Person being the King's subject, having Knowledge and Experience of the Nature of Herbs, Roots and Waters, or of the Operation of the same, by Speculation or Practice" ..."to practice, use and minister in and to any outward Sore, Uncome Wound, Aposelmations, outward Swelling or Disease, any Herb or Herbs, Ointments, Baths, Pultess, and Emplaisters, according to their Cunning, Experience and Knowledge in any of the Diseases, Sorea and Maladies beforesaid, and all other like to the same, or Drinks for the Stone, Strangury or Agues".I believe this Act hasn't been repealed.

Now that's the kind of King or Queen we need today!

BTW as I haven't yet discovered what Aposelmation means I'm going to accord it the following meaning: a malignant condition of the mind which denies the usefulness of any natural form of healing regardless of the evidence for it. Yes, there are homeopathic remedies such as Arsenicum, Arg. Nit etc which could well make considerable inroads into such a condition.

Is your Doctor really to blame for the stuff he prescribes?

Here is a comment from a naturopathic US doctor which explains the modern day pressures they are under which, he believes, leads his (non-complementary minded) colleagues to prescribe in ways that, under other circumstances, they mightn't do. I think commonsense tells us laymen that he is speaking the truth. But what a damning indictment it is on the top hierarchy of the medical profession that they don't do anything to change this. Whatever happened to that fundamental precept of medical ethics "First, do No Harm" ? [The follow-up comments appended below came from the same website]

"As a naturopathic physician, I am always looking to new scientific findings to help explain why the treatments I provide work so well, despite often not having been subjected to "gold standard double-blind, placebo-controlled cross-over studies." We vastly undervalue empiricism in medicine, yet many experienced conventional docs use unproven empirical treatments all the time. They figure out what works, despite what the "gold standard" research says.

Some of the treatments I provide have been around for thousands of years and I continue to be surprised how well my patients respond to acupuncture, nutrients, herbs, homeopathy, hydrotherapy and other approaches. I use several therapies simultaneously with my patients, an approach that is difficult to study using "gold standard" methodology. Additionally, you have to consider that "gold standard" methodology makes a massive and impossible assumption right out of the gate, that the population being studied is socially, phenotypically and genetically homogenous.

Perhaps my medicine's focus on the individual's overall health and function does work best -not labelling him with a diagnosis for the purpose of justifying a FDA/ industry accepted, standard-of-care treatment. The treatment X for condition Y approach sounds scientific and rational; but the catch is in determining the "condition," the whole health picture of the patient, not just that they have an affected part.

Yes, I use the available science to best direct my treatments, whether the approach is "conventional" or "alternative." I just like to practice good medicine; what I know works based upon my experience and what has worked for doctors who've come before me.

It's ironic that the word, physician, means 'one who knows nature.'

It seems that THE ONLY THING CONVENTIONAL PHYSICIANS KNOW THESE DAYS IS WHAT IS TAUGHT TO THEM IN MEDICAL SCHOOL FROM DRUG REPS AND PRACTICE GUIDELINES THAT ARE DICTATED BY THEIR INDUSTRY, DRUG COMPANIES AND INSURANCE FIRMS(my emphasis added).

I actually feel sorry for MDs these days. Even if they wanted to do things differently, the various industry influences would prevent it.

In addition, with ever-dwindling reimbursement from insurance, they have to provide even less individualized care than ever before; having to squeeze in more patients in a day just to pay their bills.

MANY MDS THESE DAYS ARE VIRTUALLY SLAVES WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO PRACTICE MEDICINE IN A WAY THAT IS BOTH ACCEPTABLE TO THEIR PEERS AND PROFITABLE FOR DRUG COMPANIES.

No, everyday MDs aren't evil. They are (most of them) very decent, well-intentioned individuals who are, unfortunately, caught up in a meat grinder of an industry. MOST of them aren't the ones churning the meat-grinder handle, so don't lump them all together. I say this even though MOST OF THEM HAVE BOUGHT INTO THE ANTI-COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE BIAS THAT IS FED TO THEM."

--------------------

The constructive vision is there, in the article!
1. Take more time caring for your patients - listen to them, think about what is going on, what are the real causes/triggers of their individual condition?
2. Don't give too much emphasis to routine test results.
3. Avoid prescribing cocktails of drugs routinely and thoughtlessly. Take your patients off drugs whenever possible.
4. Resist the pressure from colleagues, manufacturers and journals to accept research at face value.
5. Don't get attached to trendy theories (e.g. dietary cholesterol causes heart disease - disproved decades ago, but still trotted out by many medics)

I get really flabbergasted by the opaqueness of many physicians vision when the answer is staring them in the face: YOU HAVE BECOME TOO DEPENDENT ON DRUGS TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS FOR YOU!

[TNM COMMENT: One could well add the advice to conventionally trained doctors .... Have the humility to understand that in any given case you may well not be the person in the best position to help the patient back to full health if all you can think of dosing them with is an antibiotic, statin, steroid, antidepressant etc which will just mask the symptoms and not cure but potentially damage the patient's immune system. It may well be that unless it is a case for acute emergency treatment the patient's best interests would be better served by you attempting a diagnosis and then handing the casenotes on to a qualified complementary healthcare practitioner eg homeopath, naturopath, nutritionist, accupuncturist, chiropracter, osteopath etc]

-----------------------------

- For many physicians it is very difficult to keep up with every single new guideline because publishing increases at an exponential rate every year (despite 90% of research being rejected by publishers).

- Only 54% of people seen in hospitals get what is considered the standard of care.

- The standard of care is usually based on gold & platinum standard large randomized control trials, of which around 10-25% may be wrong.

- Pharmaceutical companies fund about 90% of Randomized Control Trials performed globally. (WHY? Because these are REALLY EXPENSIVE).

- These RCTs rarely produce results that are unfavourable to the [pharmaceutical] companies' products. AND, overall, studies funded by a [pharmaceutical] company were four times more likely to have results favourable to the company than studies funded from other sources.

[TNM COMMENT: RCTS have been and doubtless still are being "fudged". Take a look at http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/11/lies-damned-lies-and-medical-science/8269.

For testing homeopathic remedies conventional medicine's RCT test is totally unsuitable and inappropriate because homeopathy, as properly practised, treats each patient individually and most often with a succession of different remedies depending upon the aetiology in the case, that patient's vital state and the totality of their symptoms, to nudge the patient's system back to full health. This would be the case even where, say, each individual had been diagnosed as having eg arthitis. There is no way an RCT could begin to accurately test this process, but that has never stopped homeopathy's detractors from clamouring for the homeopathic profession to use RCTs!]

Do your homework before subjecting your children to any vaccine.

An update on the HPV vaccine ..... which no girl (or boy) should ever take.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/02/18/leading-vaccine-doctor-states-cancer-linked-to-polio-vaccine.aspx

Following on from my 28th Oct blog reporting the 40 UK children killed by the MMR vaccine, we hear that for the HPV vaccine as of December 13, 2010, 20,915 adverse reactions had been reported in the United States alone, INCLUDING 89 DEATHS, 297 miscarriages or stillbirths, and 370 reports of abnormal pap smears post vaccination. (NB these stats may be vastly too low because of the normal under-reporting of adverse events by the medical profession).

According to the US National Vaccine Information Center, the incidents of miscarriage and still birth events from Gardasil supersede the same event from all other vaccinations.

According to a recent Sane Vax press release on PR Log:

"There is no doubt the vaccine's safety and efficacy has not been thoroughly investigated. And independent investigation on the safety and efficacy of the HPV vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix must be conducted before there are more injuries and deaths."

What's most frustrating about this is that not a single one of these 21,000 children and young women needed to be harmed or die.

In the case of the HPV vaccine (Gardasil and Cervarix) the choice is clear. It has a high rate of risk and the potential benefits are unproven:

In more than 70 percent of cases, HPV clears up on its own within a few weeks or months. In over 90 percent of cases, it's gone within two years, causing no symptoms or disease.

Only about 26 percent of girls and women ages 14 to 59 have been exposed to any HPV strain at all; and

Only 2 percent have been exposed to strains 16 or 18 – the two that Gardasil and Cervarix protect against – meaning this vaccine is completely unnecessary because HPV infection very rarely leads to cancer.

Women whose partners wore condoms during vaginal intercourse are 70 percent less likely to become infected with HPV. That's a FAR greater level of protection than you can get from this vaccine!

Vaccines' Unsavory Assortment of Toxins

Mercury continues to be a major health concern, since it is still being used in a number of different vaccines, without sufficient safety testing. The science is increasingly clear about the dangers of mercury for children.

The latest studies confirm that mercury can damage children's brains and immune systems. Most childhood vaccines are finally mercury-free, but thimerosal continues to be used in multi-dose vials of DTwP, DT and most flu shots.

Besides mercury, vaccines also contain other dangerous ingredients conveniently disregarded by the pharmaceutical industry, including:

Formaldehyde, a known cancer-causing agent
Phenol (carbolic acid)
Resin and gelatin, known to cause allergic reactions
Polysorbate 80 (Tween80™), which can cause anaphylactic reactions, and may cause miscarriage and infertility
Triton X100 (detergent)

Increasing numbers of concerned parents are opting out of vaccines for their children after concluding that the risks far outweigh the benefits. But if you live in Washington State, your right to file this kind of exemption is in jeopardy.

A bill that jeopardizes the freedom for Washington state residents to make informed, voluntary decisions about vaccination was fast tracked and rammed through the state legislature by special interest lobbyists promoting forced vaccination. The legislators ignored the pleas of more than 100 parents and holistic health professionals, who showed up in Olympia to testify against the bill that would require parents to get a signature from a doctor or medical worker if they wanted to file a religious or philosophical belief exemption to vaccination.
The health committee chairpersons in the state House and Senate blocked the oral testimony of all but a handful of parents and then went on to ignore the thousands of phone calls by Washington state voters protesting the assault on their informed consent rights by the medical and pharmaceutical lobby.

Despite the public protest, the legislation passed the legislature on March 26 and is headed for Governor Christine Gregoire's desk for her signature after final touches are put on the legislation in the House and Senate.

The proposed new law discriminates against parents by failing to give them equal protection under the Federal Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 (PL 99-660).
According to the National Vaccine Information Center, if the Governor of Washington signs this legislation into law, it will give doctors and other vaccine providers the power to sit "in judgment of," or interfere with, the free exercise of religious, spiritual or conscientious beliefs of their patients. It will also make it easier for physicians to deny children medical care as a way to punish parents for making selective vaccine choices, which is, unfortunately, the official policy of many American pediatricians.

Informed consent is especially important when it comes to vaccination, because there is no way for you or your physician to predict if your child will be one of the children who has a devastating vaccine reaction, such as brain inflammation, immune dysregulation, or even death.

REMEMBER with just a few minutes research on the internet you will probably be in a far more informed position than most doctors would have the time to be about these vaccines.

Basic Guidelines for Eating for Health

There is a lot of information out there about how and what to eat. Once we make the decision to prioritize our nutrition and eat for health, sorting through all that information can be overwhelming. Let us help. Here are a few key guidelines to keep in mind when eating for health:
  • Do not eat unless hungry. Many of us eat from habit, boredom, loneliness, comfort, or for many other reasons rather than from hunger.
  • Chew thoroughly; the slower we eat, the less we eat.
  • There is a delay between eating and satiety or feeling full, so leave the table feeling you could eat more. It may be helpful to get a container that is about the size of our hand (this is the size of our stomach) and use it to measure meals. Remember, the goal is to eat enough so we feel sated, not stuff this container full until it breaks!
  • Take breaks while eating to give your body a chance to evaluate fullness.
  • Do not fry foods. Steam, grill, or bake when possible.
  • Focus on eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables, quality lean proteins, and whole grains.
  • If certain foods are a trigger, don't buy them.
  • Indulge with foods you love that are good for you, such as exotic fruits and vegetables. Exotic produce may seem expensive, but not when compared to the price of many processed foods or the cost of being unhealthy.

Revitalize Your Skin for Spring with Dry Skin Brushing

Dry skin brushing is an easy way to help keep skin smooth, soft, and healthy. Dry skin brushing stimulates the sweat and oil glands, which decrease production with age, and helps stimulate collagen in the skin. Dry skin brushing also exfoliates the layers of dead cells, improving skin’s appearance (our skin's ability to shed the outermost layer of cells decreases with age), and can help break up areas of cellulite.

To use the dry skin brushing technique, use a natural bristled brush, preferably a long-handled bath brush. Note that it must be of natural bristles because nylon can tear the skin and disturb the electro-magnetic balance of the skin. Never wet your brush; dry skin is important as water acts as a lubricant and the beneficial affects of the friction are lost.

Using small circles, move your brush all over the bare body. As you move through each area, it may assist lymphatic flow to begin in the lymph node for that area, then work from the outer extremities towards that lymph node. Begin at the feet and work towards the heart to stimulate venous circulation. Do not brush the face or any tender or inflamed areas, but do brush the soles of the feet.

The brush may feel rough to begin with, so use gentle pressure until you become used to the sensation. Increase the pressure as needed. Dry skin brush at least once a day for best results.

It can also be helpful to follow dry skin brushing with a salt scrub (use ½-cup of sea salt or Epsom salt, add sufficient olive oil (you can also use sweet almond oil) to made a paste. Add a few drops of essential oil if you want). Rub all over the body, avoiding the eyes, mucous membranes, and any broken skin. Then rinse off in the shower.

Propolis Drops Help Treat Inflammation of Ear Canal in Dogs

Even pets & animals are responsive to the therapeutic effects of Propolis! Now, time to introduce it more veterinarians...

Efficacy of Argentine Propolis Formulation for Topical Treatment of Canine Otitis Externa
Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec, vol.62 no.6 Belo Horizonte Dec. 2010

The therapeutic effects of Argentine propolis ear drop formulation on canine otitis externa were evaluated.

Forty-eight dogs with symptoms of otitis externa were randomly assigned to double-blinded, controlled clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of topical formulation with propolis versus a topical placebo in the treatment of otitis externa.

The propolis preparation and placebo were administrated into both external ear canals, twice daily for 14 days. Throughout the study, clinical examination and microbiological analysis of dogs ear exudates were made. The most frequent microorganisms isolated in culture media were: Malassezia pachydermatis (54.2%), Staphylococcus aureus (43.8%), coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (25.0%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (20.8%), Candida albicans (18.8%), Proteus mirabilis (16.7%), Streptococcus spp. (16.7%), Enteroccocus faecalis (12.5%), Escherichia coli (12.5%), Staphylococcus intermedius (6.3%), Klebsiella spp. (4.2%), andCandida glabrata (2.1%).

Whereas the control group did not recover from the infectious ear disease, the propolis preparation exhibited antimicrobial activity against most of the microorganisms isolated from samples of the treated group. In addition, no propolis-adverse effects were observed. This allowed propolis-treated patients to show a significant improvement of the clinical parameters.

Thus, this new Argentine propolis ear drop formulation may be used for topical treatment of otitis externa in dogs.

Propolis Boosts Fracture Healing

I've read of royal jelly's beneficial effects on bone and tissue healing. So, this is additional justification to consuming more bee products simultaneously!

Propolis Boosts Fracture Healing

Effects of Propolis on Fracture Healing: An Experimental Study
Phytotherapy Research, March 21, 2011

Propolis is a substance of honeybee origin with known antioxidant effects. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of propolis on fracture healing and the antioxidant system in an experimental setting.

Thirty-two rats that underwent experimental femur fracture and then fixation were randomly allocated in one of four groups: two control groups (Control-3w and Control-6w) and two treatment groups (Propolis-3w and Propolis-6w).

Treatment groups received propolis until killing (at 3 or 6 weeks). X-ray, histological, bone mineral density measurement findings and endogenous antioxidant levels were examined.

The bone mineral density was higher, radiological and histological evaluation scores were better, and superoxide dismutase, total glutathione and myeloperoxidase levels were lower among the rats that received oral propolis treatment compared with the controls.

In addition, bone mineral density and histological assessment scores showed time-dependent improvement in the treatment group.

In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that propolis has some time-dependent beneficial effects on fracture healing.

Propolis’ Synergistic Effect with Antibiotics Examined

This has been reported anecdotally for over 20 years. It's good to get some precision.
"Previous works... revealed that propolis has synergistic effects with antibiotics, acting on the bacterial wall and ribosome..."

Propolis’ Synergistic Effect with Antibiotics Examined

Antibacterial Effects of Brazilian and Bulgarian Propolis and Synergistic Effects with Antibiotics Acting on the Bacterial DNA and Folic Acid
Nat Prod Res, 2011 Jan 1:1-6

Propolis is a honeybee product that has been used since ancient times because of its therapeutic effects.

It can be used in the development of alternative therapies for the treatment of many diseases, and because propolis shows antibacterial action, this work was carried out in order to investigate a possible synergism between propolis and antibiotics acting on DNA (ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin) and on the metabolism (cotrimoxazole) against Salmonella Typhi.

Propolis samples collected in Brazil and Bulgaria were compared in these assays, and the synergism was investigated by using ½ and ¼ of the minimal inhibitory concentration for propolis and antibiotics, evaluating the number of viable cells according to the incubation time.

Brazilian and Bulgarian propolis showed antibacterial activity, but no synergistic effects with the three tested antibiotics were seen. Previous works by our laboratory have revealed that propolis has synergistic effects with antibiotics, acting on the bacterial wall and ribosome, but it does not seem to interact with antibiotics acting on DNA or folic acid, and only a bacteriostatic action was seen in these assay conditions.

Meat Glue!

Here's something you might not know. I certainly didn't. The meat industry uses "glue" to stick together scraps and make them look like Prime Cuts.
(see the http://healthfreedoms.org website)

Did you know your meats can contain this meat glue? It’s not on labels because technically it not part of formulation of the product. It's called Thrombin coagulant.

It allows butchers to use the undetectable glue to piece together scraps of meat into a seamless full meat cut. England banned use of Thrombin coagulant last year. They found it misled consumers into thinking they were getting a prime cut for their money, and also the original glue was made from cow and pig blood, something they didn’t think was wise in restaurant meats.

When multiple pieces are globbed together, bacteria has a better chance of growth. “If there is a bacteria outbreak, it’s much harder to figure out the source when chunks of meat from multiple cows were combined,” said Keith Warriner who teaches food science at University of Guelph.

The EU recently brought back the use of the new glue, Thrombian, or Transglutaminase, right along with Australia, Canada and the US. The FDA, of course, deems it GRAS (generally recognized as safe).

It’s hush-hush because meat preparers are afraid to lose their suppliers and customers. The next time you buy natural and organic meat, it wouldn't hurt to ask whether the glue is in it.

This sort of thing has been a boon to the food industry, which can now treat all sorts of proteins like meat or fish as just another material to be processed, but in the hands of molecular gastronomists it’s become a way to manipulate food in a way that would have been previously impossible. It’s possible, for example, to make tenderloin rolls wrapped in bacon that hold together perfectly without the need for twine or toothpicks. So what kind of glue is it exactly?

Produced as Activa by Japan’s Ajinomoto Company, it’s scientific name is “transglutaminase” and it belongs to the family of clotting enzymes which are eight in number.

Thrombin is a coagulation protein which together with the fibrous protein fibrin can be used to develop a “meat glue” enzyme that can be used for sticking together different pieces of meat. It can be made from blood taken from either cows or pigs.

Less than a year ago, the European Parliament had voted to ban bovine and porcine thrombin. The House said the meat glue has no proven benefit for consumers and might mislead them instead.

The Parliament estimated that there is “a clear risk that meat containing thrombin would find its way into meat products served in restaurants or other public establishments serving food, given the higher prices that can be obtained for pieces of meat served as a single meat product”.

But two weeks ago, all but one of the European Union nations voted in favor of using Thrombian, or Transglutaminase (TG). They now join other developed nations such as the U.S., Canada, and Australia who approved the product.

If there is a bacteria outbreak, it’ll be much harder to figure out the source when chunks of meat from multiple cows were combined.

Yet another innovation is “modified atmosphere packaging”, the widespread practice of filling meat packaging with adjusted levels of oxygen and other gases. The gases can keep meat from losing its fresh-looking red hue. Shiv Chopra, an Ottawa food-safety expert and retired Health Canada scientist, said in an e-mail that the technique is “dangerous” because it may prevent shoppers from seeing when meat has gone bad. UBC’s Allen agreed: “This can be misleading to consumers.”

Invariably, industry justifies use of these so called meat glues because they are used only during processing and resist declaring it in the label obviously maintaining that it is not a part of the formulation of the product. While technically they are correct, the fact still remains that the so called processing aid stays right there in the final product.which certainly requires declaration for the information of the consumer.

Maybe it's time to have a chat with your butcher or shop more from farmer’s markets.
