Need a Detox AFTER the festive season?

By Christo Lues

Most of us don’t like the idea of a detox. For most people this means bland lettuce and tomato, carrot sticks and water. Basically devoid of all ‘good’ stuff. Although there are people out there advocating these kinds of detoxes, personally I have never been keen on the idea.

The dilemma is: if I need to ‘de-tox’ by only eating those bland foods and everything else is bad for me, then logically I will ‘re-tox’ my body by eating normal food again! That just doesn’t make sense.
There are however definite no-no’s one should avoid if you want to be healthy for a long time. These will generally break down your body over time, ending in disease or degeneration of body parts.
Our philosophy is to Cleanse, Nourish and Balance the body. Once in-balance, it does not take very much to maintain a state of balance in the body. This is where we advise on a maintenance program.
The VERY BEST way to determine what is needed to detox your body, is to have a personal Live Blood Analysis by a Sevenpointfive consultant. This caters for individual needs and as a personal trust relationship develops with the consultant, you may find yourself in less need of chemical medicine and relying more on natural medicine and your body’s own repair systems.
For most of us the following general guidelines may help to keep our bodies afloat, until you can get to a consultant.
Avoid fast foods, sugary drinks and foods like sweets and ice cream, highly processed and refined foods like pastries, cakes, muffins and puddings.
Avoid artificial or Non-Nutritive Sweeteners.
Avoid canned and processed meats like salami, polony, spreads, bacon, pies, vienna’s etc.
Hydrogenated oils or food containing these like margarine, sunflower oil, canola oil, chips, crisps or any deep fried foods.
Food containing MSG or Mono-Sodium-Glutemate like Aromat, soup powders or Barbecue Spice. These days I see more and more products hiding this as ‘yeast extract’
Concentrate on eating fresh (organic where possible) foods, eat whole grain breads, try baking your own, with Spelt or Rye. Use butter for frying eggs. Eat as many eggs as you like (it has NO effect on cholesterol - by the way) Buy free-range eggs, meat and chicken. Steam or oven roast your food. Avoid microwave cooking.
Eat a decent breakfast, this is one place you do not want to skimp. If you eat the right kind of breakfast you will be able to shake some of those extra kilos that became your partners during the holidays.
Drink LOTS of CLEAN water. If you have not done so already, get a decent water filter for the house. If you have to buy bottled water, get Nestle or Valpre still un-flavoured water. Not many other bottled waters are any good - the pH is too low of these waters.
Test your body’s pH to determine if you are too acidic.
Some supplements to consider for aiding your detox are as follows:
Good Anti-oxidant to get rid of the toxic buildup of accumulated toxins in the cells.
A digestive enzyme complex to break down the undigested fats and proteins in the blood.
Coral Calcuim for balancing your body’s pH.
You may need to detox your best friend - your liver.
If you need more personal attention, then make an appointment to see myself or a Sevenpointfive consultant in your area.
