Horse Wounds Treated with Manuka Honey

Wounds heal better with honey and many studies confirm this, from horses to dogs to people...

APreliminary Study on the Effect of Manuka Honey on Second-Intention Healing ofContaminated Wounds on the Distal Aspect of the Forelimbs of Horses
VeterinarySurgery, 20 Sept 2011

Objective
Todetermine the effect of manuka honey on second-intention healing ofcontaminated, full-thickness skin wounds in horses.

Methods
One woundwas created on the dorsomedial aspect of the third metacarpus in bothforelimbs, contaminated with feces, and bandaged for 24 hours. Bandages wereremoved and wounds rinsed with isotonic saline solution. Wounds on 1 limb hadmanuka honey applied daily (n = 8) whereas wounds on the contralateral limbreceived no treatment (n = 8). Bandages were replaced and changed daily for 12days, after which treatment stopped, bandages were removed, leaving wounds opento heal. Wound area was measured 24 hours after wound creation (day 1), thenweekly for 8 weeks. Overall time for healing was recorded. Wound area and rateof healing of treated and control wounds were compared statistically.

Results
Treatmentwith manuka honey decreased wound retraction and treated wounds remainedsignificantly smaller than control wounds until day 42; however, there was nodifference in overall healing time between treatment and control wounds.

Conclusions
Treatmentwith manuka honey reduced wound area by reducing retraction but did not affectoverall healing time of full-thickness distal limb wounds using thiswound-healing model.

Designer And Cost Effective Imitation And Artificial Jewelry

Jewelry lovers all over the world are highly interested in keeping pace with what is latest in the world of fashion jewelry. Authentic jewelry designs made of costly metals like gold and silver are getting limited to special occasions only. At the same time, the imitation and artificial designs, like lakh and kundan jewelry, have become highly popular as fashion jewelry.

Imitation Jewelry

The imitation jewelry manufacturers are taking into consideration the needs of changing time and devoting their expertise more and more towards these fashion jewelry items. For instance, the jewelry designers and manufacturers from the countries like India make imitation and artificial jewelry designs and export them to various countries around the world. As a result, these designs are rising in fame at the global level. There are many reasons that make these fashion jewelry items as popular as silver and gold jewelry.

Inexpensive Options
One of the most common reasons that inspire people to purchase imitation jewelry designs is that they are quite cheaper than gold jewelry and designs made from other expensive materials. The gold prices are constantly rising and not everyone is able to afford the expensive jewelry items. The imitation and diamond jewelry designs made of pearls, beads, stones, glass, copper and other materials are available at significantly lower prices.

Artificial Jewelry

Beautiful Appeal
Imitation jewelry designs are as beautiful and appealing as expensive jewelry designs. In fact, these designs are considered as fashion symbols and are worn extensively. You can find all types of designs made of inexpensive materials. These include kundan jewelry sets, necklaces, rings, earrings, pendants as well as bracelets. So, one can expect wonderful designs available in the categories like imitation and artificial jewelries.

The beautiful appeal of artificial jewelry designs encourages people to wear them to different places and on different occasions. For instance, women prefer to wear these jewelry items to workplaces, social gatherings as well as while traveling to other places.

Matching Authentic Designs
People have not completely lost their interest in expensive jewelry, but have limited the collection of these jewelry designs. So, a new fashion trend is to match and wear the imitation jewelry designs with expensive jewelry items. For example, matching lakh bangles with gold necklace is a great idea and one can think of many such ideas.

Safe to Wear
Imitation jewelry designs are safe to wear. As they are not costly, people feel it safe and convenient to wear them to crowded places and while traveling through public transportation modes. Even if they are lost or stolen, they don’t pose as big losses to the owner.

Popular among Young Generation
Gold jewelry is not that popular among teenagers and youngsters. They wish to wear something more fashionable and stylish. Imitation jewelry designs easily fulfill their wish as they represent the latest fashion trends. So, one can find the young generation wearing cool imitation and artificial jewelry designs to parties, campuses as well as while hanging out with friends.

If you have a fashion jewelry store, make sure you purchase latest designs for your customers. For this, it is a good idea to search on the internet and find imitation jewelry manufacturers from different parts of the world.

What Choices You Must Offer as a Power Transformer Seller?

Power transformers are devices that help to step up or step down the electrical energy or supply voltage. A power transformer has its main application in long distance electrical energy transfer. In fact, these devices have contributed highly in shaping the electricity supply industry.

The manufacturers produce power transformers with different options to make them useful for different applications. To be a successful seller of power transformers, you must learn about the choices you must offer to the buyers in the market. Learn about these choices from the following discussion.

Power Transformers

Installation Site Choice
To begin with, a power transformer can be installed both outdoor and indoor. So, you must offer the transformers with the choice of installation site. Some transformers are not meant for outdoor installations, while there are others that can be installed both indoor and outdoor. As obvious, those installed outdoor must have the capability to withstand various weather elements.

Choices in Installation Environment
The environment in which a power transformer would be installed should be considered to offer choices to the intended customers. For example, some power transformers are designed to have earthquake-resistant capability. However, such transformers are not required in areas that are less or not at all prone to earthquakes. Other choices that can be offered are power transformers with dustproof, shockproof, fireproof, antifouling and waterproof capabilities.

Power Transformers

Choices in Specifications
You can find power transformers with varying specifications with various power transformer suppliers. So, you must offer choices in power transformers on the basis of the following specifications:
  • Input voltage that may vary from few volts to hundreds of volts and even kilovolts.
  • Input frequency measured in hertz and that vary for different types of applications.
  • Power capacity or output power rating. This again depends upon the type of application the customers purchase a power transformer for.
  • Winding turns ratio, with popular choices like step-up, step-down, variable and multiple winding.
  • Maximum relative humidity.
  • Operating temperature as well as storage temperature so that the transformer operates at the right temperature.

Choices in Coolant
Power transformers have coolant as an important part to ensure that excess of heat doesn’t harm them. Different coolant choices can be offered to the transformer buyers. Air-cooled transformers are common and so are the water-cooled. However, your customers might need oil-cooled and fan-cooled transformers according to their needs.

Choices in Application
Finally, you can offer choices in power transformers for different types of applications. For example, power transfer and distribution is one application of power transformers while impedance matching is another. Output voltage and current stabilization and output amplification are other applications of power transformers.

Finally, you can offer choices in the form of power transformer manufacturers. Many purchasers consider the brand name of a manufacturer important before buying a transformer. So, you must offer the power transformers made by the companies that are reputed and have a good market share.

An online business directory should help you to find different power transformer suppliers and manufacturers offering variety of power transformers. Spend time in exploring these marketplaces to choose right transformers for selling.

Bee Venom Provides ‘Collective Immunity’ for Hive

a significant finding... Could this explain the consistency of all the bee products to possess antimicrobial properties?...

Beyond theAntipredatory Defence: Honey Bee Venom Function as a Component of SocialImmunity
Toxicon,2011 Sep 10

The honeybee colonies, with the relevant number of immature brood and adults, andstable, high levels of humidity and temperatures of their nests, result insuitable environments for the development of microorganisms includingpathogens.

Inresponse, honey bees evolved several adaptations to face the increased risks ofepidemic diseases. As the antimicrobial venom peptides of Apis mellifera arepresent both on the cuticle of adult bees and on the nest wax it has beenrecently suggested that these substances act as a social antiseptic device.

Since theuse of venom by honey bees in the context of social immunity needs to be moredeeply investigated, we extended the study of this potential role of the venomto different species of the genus Apis (A. mellifera, Apisdorsata, Apis ceranaand Apis andreniformis) using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry techniques.

Inparticular we investigated whether (similarly to A. mellifera) the venom isspread over the body cuticle and on the comb wax of these three Asian species.Our results confirm the idea that the venom functions are well beyond theclassical stereotype of defence against predators, and suggest that thedifferent nesting biology of these species may be related to the use of thevenom in a social immunity context.

Thepresence of antimicrobial peptides on the comb wax of the cavity-dwellingspecies and on the cuticle of workers of all the studied species represents agood example of "collective immunity" and a component of the"social immunity" respectively.

Cooking with Fall Greens: The Health Benefits of Kale

Fall is here and with it rich greens like kale, spinach, arugula, and spicy mustard greens -- all of which can be grown in your fall garden! Greens add flavor and color to meals, as well as necessary nutrients to support optimal health.

Kale, for example, is a rich source of antioxidants, including carotenoids and flavonoids, which may help protect the body from the effects of oxidative stress*. Dr. Weil includes a useful definition of oxidative stress on his website here.

Kale also may support the body's natural detox process.* Its sulfur compounds are thought to support Phase II detoxification - the step in which toxins in the liver are turned into neutral substances, making them easier to eliminate from the body.

Plus, it's tasty eaten raw or added to cooked meals. We like to saute our kale with onions, garlic, olive oil, and a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg. >> Download this kale recipe and a recipe for baked kale on ACHS Facebook (facebook.com/ACHSedu) here

Have tips for growing leafy greens like kale in your fall garden? Post them here! We'd also invite you to share your favorite kale recipes - variety is the spice of life!

Treating Lyme Disease with Bee Venom Therapy

Numerous studies are being done with Bee Venom Therapy (BVT) for its effect against Parkinson's Disease, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Sclerosis. I've also seen BVT used for scar therapy, mole removal, bone spurs, even pain relief!  Thanks to medical practitioners like Dr Klinghardt for incorporating BVT into a complementary treatment protocol .

TheTreatment of Lyme Disease with Bee Venom
by Dietrich K. Klinghardt, M.D., Ph.D.
Apitherapy Review, Apitherapy Commission Apimondia

PART 1
Introduction
Lymedisease has become, after AIDS, probably the fastest spreading infectiousdisease. "Classical" Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused bya spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi, which is passed to the patient by a tickbite. Since several other infections that cause similar symptoms can betransmitted by the same tick bite, and other infectious agents not transmittedby a tick can cause similar symptoms, the term "New Lyme Disease" isused by most holistic physicians. Lyme disease is not only a frequentunderlying causal factor in chronic human illness, but also extremely common inpets, especially in dogs and horses.

Thefollowing microorganisms have to be considered when making the diagnosis of"New Lyme Disease."

Borreliaburgdorferi;
Babesiamicroti (a protozoan intracellular invader);
Ehrlichiosis;
Mycoplasmapneumoniae (associated with MS, ALS, Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia);
Chlamydiapneumoniae;
Bartonellahenselae;
Rickettsiarickettsiae.
Thefollowing symptoms can be caused by Lyme disease:

ChronicFatigue (more severe in the early afternoon);
Lack ofendurance;
Non-healinginfections in the jaw bone, devitalized teeth, dental pain;
Fibromyalgia;
Joint pains(especially in the spine);
MultipleChemical Sensitivity;
CranialNerve Problems:
- Facialnerve: Bell's palsy (60% are caused by Lyme disease, 30% by one of six commonviruses from the herpes family, such as EBV, Herpes simplex type I, type II,type 6 etc);

-Trigeminal nerve: sense of vibration in the face, TMJ and facial pain,headache, tension and cramps in the face/skull/jaw;

- Ears(VII, VIII): tinnitus, vertigo, and hypersensitivity to noise;

- Eyes (II,III, IV, VI): decreasing and changing eye sight (fluctuates during the day),light sensitivity, floaters;

- Vagus(X), Glossopharyngeal nerve (IX) and Hypoglossus (XII): difficulty swallowing,faulty swallowing, reflux, hiatus hernia, heart palpitations, supraventriculararrythmias.
CNSproblems:
- Physical:epileptic seizures, insomnia, tremor, ataxia, movement disorders (torticollis,etc.);
-Emotional: irritability (key symptom in children), depression, bi-phasicbehaviour (manic-depression), bouts of anger, listlessness;
- Mental:confusion, difficulty thinking, poor short term memory, increasingly messyhousehold and desk, difficulty finding the right word, feeling of"information overload;"
- Mixedpictures: can resemble or imitate any known psychiatric illness.
Peripheralnervous system problems:
Paraesthesia,burning, vibration, numbness, shooting pains.
Pelvis:interstitial cystitis, prostatitis, sexual dysfunction, loss of libido, pelvicpain, menstrual disorders.
Immunesystem failure: with all known secondary illnesses such as herpes virusinfection, intestinal parasites, malaise.
Generalsymptoms: hair loss, loss of zest for life, sensitivity to electric appliances.

LaboratoryTesting

Untilrecently laboratory testing has been unsatisfactory with a detection rate ofprobably below 30%. In the past it was believed the laboratory evaluation ofthe spinal fluid was a reliable way to confirm or refute the diagnosis of Lymedisease. This has been proven wrong. The test with the broadest detection rate,the Western Blot ELISA test, has low specificity. The test with the highestspecificity but with a fairly low detection rate was the PCR test. The B.burgdorferi is a master at evading the body's immune system and evadinglaboratory detection by modulating and changing its surface antigens. It canform a cystic stage, which is resistant to antibiotics, evades laboratorydetection, and gives birth to healthy spirochetes once the antibiotics arediscontinued.

A new testhas become available recently: the C6 Lyme Peptide ELISA test (BBI ClinicalLaboratories, Tel.: 1-800-866-6254 or 860-225-1900, test code: 556 - C6LPE. Thetest is based on the discovery of six peptides on the surface of thespirochete, which are consistently present and do not evade detection by thelaboratory as many of the other surface antigens of B. burgdorferi do. Thistest detects all B. burgdorferi strains and genospecies. It is highly specificand more sensitive than conventional tests for chronic Lyme disease. It is alsosensitive in early Lyme disease (which used to be problematic) and can be usedfor accurate antibody results for Lyme vaccinated patients.

Treatment

Treatmenthas often been unsatisfactory in spite of correct diagnosis. Multipleantibiotic regimes have been tried with varying successes. The cystic stageresponds only to one antibiotic: metronidazole (Flagyl). This drug should begiven intravenously. The oral version is less effective and hard on the liver.It should always be given together with the herb "milk thistle"because of its liver-protective effect. A less toxic alternative is tinidazole,a Flagyl-derivative that is available in compounding pharmacies.

I useproteolytic enzymes for the purpose of breaking up the cyst wall and making thedormant form of B. burgdorferi inside the cyst vulnerable to both the host'simmune system and the medications given for treatment.

Dosage:Wobenzyme, 8-10 tablets three times/day between meals and first thing a.m.

Treatmentprotocols using antibiotics are outlined in the website of J. Borrescano, MD:www.lymenet.com. I use, in selected cases, a combination of azithromycin orclarithromycin 250-500 mg two times/day in combination with trimethoprim 100 mgtwice/day for 6-8 weeks.

Mypreferred treatment is a combination of enzymes, herbs, specific transferfactors and the injection of honeybee venom.

Herbs

I followthe recommendations of Dr. Zhang, MD, LAc of New York(http://www.dr-zhang.com).
His specialgarlic extract with a high concentration of Allicin:

2 mgAllicin/kg of bodyweight per day for 6 months; HH (Houttuyniae Herba):
3 tabletsthree times/day for 6 months.

His specialArtemesia (wormwood) combination: 1-2 tablets three times/day for 6 months
(usuallyrecommended when Babesia is involved).

In additionI use the specific herbal combinations from the Monastery of Herbs in Los Angeles
(Tel.:818-360-4871). These are very effective 18-day programs. I use AutonomicResponse
Testing todetermine the most effective combination.
I rotatedifferent regimes over the 6-month treatment period.

SpecificTransfer Factors
When apregnant cow is infected with a certain illness, her first milk (colostrum)after the calf is born contains specific peptides that prevent the illness inthe calf. Based on this principle, specific transfer factors have becomeavailable for the treatment of B. burgdorferi, Babesia, Mycoplasma pneumoniaeetc.
Mostreadily available are oral capsules with dried peptide extracts (ChisolmBiological Laboratory,
Tel.:803-663 9618 / ext. 9777). By adding the specific transfer factors into thetreatment regime, the successrate can be dramatically increased.

Honey Effective in Management of Bed Sores

This supports other clinical cases of healing bed-ridden patients with chronic pressure ulcers, such as CHU, a Hospital in Limoges France, where they found Thyme honey to be most effective in healing stubborn wounds. For 25 years, they've treated thousands of cases of post-operative wounds and bed sores.

Use of Medihoney as a Non-Surgical Therapy for ChronicPressure Ulcers in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord, 20 Sept 2011

Study design: Prospective, observational study of 20spinal cord-injured (SCI) patients with chronic pressure ulcers (PUs) usingMedihoney.

Objectives: To determine the effects of Medihoney bybacterial growth, wound size and stage of healing in PUs.

Methods: We treated 20 SCI adult patients with chronicPUs using Medihoney. In all, 7 patients (35%) were female, and 13 (65%) weremale. The average patient age was 48.7 years (30-79). In all, 6 patients (30%)were tetraplegic and 14 (70%) were paraplegic. Also, 5 patients (25%) had gradeIV ulcers and 15 patients (75%) had grade III ulcers according to the NationalPressure Ulcer Advisory Panel.

Results: After 1 week of treatment with Medihoney, allswabs were void of bacterial growth. Overall 18 patients (90%) showed completewound healing after a period of 4 weeks, and the resulting scars were soft andelastic. No negative effects were noted from the treatment using Medihoney. No blood sugar level derailment wasdocumented.

Conclusion: The medical-honey approach to wound caremust be part of a comprehensive conservative surgical wound-care concept. Ourstudy indicates the highly valuable efficacy of honey in wound management andinfection control as measured by bacterial growth, wound size and healing stage.

Organizing a caterer is a daunting task if you are unaware of how to choose their services.

There are hoards of catering services available to organize parties and functions. Most of these caterers offer different types of services according to the requisites of the customers. To choose the right type of caterer for your requirement, it is quite important to conduct a proper online research on the different types of caterers and their services, evaluate their samples and check previous records.

Choosing the Right Catering Services

The most important part of catering services includes food. Choosing the best cuisine is very important to make your event a grand success. First you need to have an estimate of the number of guests expected at your function.

It is very essential to check the variety of dishes on the menu before you choose a caterer. Some caterers are specialists in particular dishes whereas the others are not. A thorough research will help you tremendously in arranging the most delicious food for your honoured guests.

There are some important tips to remember before you choose to hire the services of a professional caterer.
  • Budget: it is very important to discuss your budget with the caterer before hiring their services. The type of food you require determines the budget so it is important to choose according to the preferences of your guests. Royal Jelly Improves Cognitive Function and Memory

a concise summary of numerous studies...  Is Royal Jelly the solution for other deficiencies?...

ImproveCognitive Function and Memory with RoyalJelly

By WilliamRudolph for Apitherapy Commission of Apimondia
Royal jellyis one of the most nutritionally complex foods on the planet with the abilityto shore up many nutritional deficiencies and may help people overcome conditionsthey may have been dealing with for years. Royal jelly is also highly regardedfor its brain-boosting capabilities. Whether you are a young student lookingfor an edge on an exam, a CEO with tremendous demands on your time, or havereceived the devastating diagnosis of Alzheimer`s disease, royal jelly may beable to deliver remarkable results.

Royal Jellyand the Acetylcholine Connection

Royal jellyis a creamy substance produced by the common worker bee; one of the purposes isof developing and nourishing the queen bee. On this diet of royal jelly, thequeen bee will typically grow to be 40 percent larger and can live up to 40times longer than the worker bee. Royal jelly isn`t just food for the queenbee, it`s her longevity strategy.

Royaljelly`s structure and composition has not, so far been replicated by man in anylab. The only lab capable of producing such a substance is the bee hive. Thissuperfood is rich in protein, loaded with B vitamins, and contains many otherminerals and nutrients. One of the key ingredients in royal jelly that may haveprofound implications for improving memory and invigorating mental acuity isacetylcholine.

Acetylcholinewas the first neurotransmitter discovered. It is found in the brain, spinalcord, and throughout areas of the nervous system. It regulates memory and isneeded to transmit nerve messages from cell to cell. Interestingly, royal jellyis the only natural source of pure acetylcholine. Optimal levels ofacetylcholine in the brain are associated with improved memory, fluidity ofthought, and enhanced cognitive function.

Implicationsfor Alzheimer`s Disease

Part of thewonderful symmetry of nature is its ability to deliver a formidable solutionequivalent to virtually any problem you encounter. Though conventional medicinehas not found a cure for Alzheimer`s disease, royal jelly may offer substantialbenefits. Alzheimer`s disease is a progressive, degenerative, neurologicaldisease that is thought to be irreversible. It usually afflicts people afterthe age of 65 and is the fourth leading cause of death among adults. Thepathology of Alzheimer`s disease includes the presence of extracellular plaques(clusters of dead and dying nerve cells) and intracellular"neurofibrillary tangles" (twisted fragments of protein within nervecells). These plaques and fibrous entanglements in the brain disrupt lines ofcommunication and inhibit the production of acetylcholine. This leads to loss ofmemory, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty in expressing thoughts.

Mosttraditional treatments pursued by Western medicine try to increase levels ofacetylcholine in the brain of the Alzheimer`s patient. These drugs attempt toraise the levels of acetylcholine by inhibiting the enzymes that lead to thebreakdown or degradation of acetylcholine. Royal jelly, however, can raiselevels of acetylcholine without the side effects often associated with the useof medications, such as nausea and liver toxicity.

Initiallywhen looking at royal jelly as a brain-boosting strategy, it may appear costprohibitive. Keep in mind that this gift from the hive is truly one of theelite superfoods available anywhere. It is also highly potent and concentrated,so a little goes a long way. It can be found in its traditional, jelly-likeform and ingested directly. Also, modern advances in formulation technologyhave made it available now in a freeze dried, powdered form that is perfect formixing with smoothies or adding to a homemade sports drink.

Royal Jelly Protects Kidneys, Liver from Anti-Cancer Treatments

New research from Turkish researchers confirm the protective properties of Royal Jelly against damage caused by anti-cancer therapies. Could this be new ground towards complementary alternative therapies?

Royal Jelly Modulates Oxidative Stress and Apoptosisin Liver and Kidneys of Rats Treated with Cisplatin

Abstract:
Cisplatin (CDDP) is one of the most active cytotoxicagents in the treatment of cancer and has adverse side effects such asnephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. The present study was designed to determinethe effects of royal jelly (RJ) against oxidative stress caused by CDDP injuryof the kidneys and liver, by measuring tissue biochemical and antioxidantparameters and investigating apoptosis immunohistochemically.

Twenty-four Sprague Dawley rats were divided into fourgroups, group C: control group received 0.9% saline; group CDDP: injected i.p.with cisplatin (CDDP, 7 mg kg(-1) body weight i.p., single dose); group RJ:treated for 15 consecutive days by gavage with RJ (300 mg/kg/day); group RJ +CDDP: treated by gavage with RJ 15 days following a single injection of CDDP.Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels, glutathione S-transferase(GST), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and superoxide dismutase (SOD)activities were determined in liver and kidney homogenates, and the liver andkidney were also histologically examined.

RJ elicited a significant protective effect towardsliver and kidney by decreasing the level of lipid peroxidation (MDA), elevatingthe level of GSH, and increasing the activities of GST, GSH-Px, and SOD. In theimmunohistochemical examinations were observed significantly enhanced apoptoticcell numbers and degenerative changes by cisplatin, but these histologicalchanges were lower in the liver and kidney tissues of RJ + CDDP group. Besides,treatment with RJ lead to an increase in antiapoptotic activity hepatocytes andtubular epithelium.

In conclusion, RJ may be used in combination withcisplatin in chemotherapy to improve cisplatin-induced oxidative stressparameters and apoptotic activity...

excerpt:
Recently, royal jelly (RJ) has received particularattention because of studies that have reported that it is a highly efficientantioxidant and has free radical scavenging capacity [4, 15]. Royal jelly is asecretion produced by the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of workerhoneybees (Apis mellifera). It contains many important compounds withbiological activity such as free amino acids, proteins, sugars, fatty acids,minerals, and vitamins [16]. So far, RJ has been demonstrated to possessseveral physiological activities in experimental animals, includingvasodilative and hypotensive activities [17], the induction of decrease inserum cholesterol levels [18], antimicrobial [19], antiallergic [20],anti-inflammatory [21], immunomodulatory [22, 23], and antioxidant properties[16]. In addition, Kanbur et al. [24] revealed the protective effect of RJagainst paracetamol-induced liver damage in mice.

Bee Venom May Help Treat Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and ALS

bee venom therapy has been used for arthritis, scar therapy, even used to remove moles.

Effects of Bee Venom on Glutamate-Induced Toxicity in Neuronal and Glial Cells

Abstract:

Bee venom (BV), which is extracted from honeybees, is used in traditional Korean medical therapy.

Several groups have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory effects of BV in osteoarthritis both in vivo and in vitro. Glutamate is the predominant excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS). Changes in glutamate release and uptake due to alterations in the activity of glutamate transporters have been reported in many neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

To assess if BV can prevent glutamate-mediated neurotoxicity, we examined cell viability and signal transduction in glutamate-treated neuronal and microglial cells in the presence and absence of BV. We induced glutamatergic toxicity in neuronal cells and microglial cells and found that BV protected against cell death. Furthermore, BV significantly inhibited the cellular toxicity of glutamate, and pretreatment with BV altered MAP kinase activation (e.g., JNK, ERK, and p38) following exposure to glutamate.

These findings suggest that treatment with BV may be helpful in reducing glutamatergic cell toxicity in neurodegenerative diseases.

Merck vaccine scientist Dr. Maurice Hilleman admitted presence of SV40, AIDS and cancer viruses in vaccines

Thank you to Mike Adams of Natural News for publishing the transcript below, which comes I guess you would say from the horses mouth. I thought it worth posting it particularly for those of my doctor friends, and an MP I wrote to, who still take it on trust that the research process which develops novel drugs and vaccines for them to give their patients is always conducted with the utmost care and integrity.

(NaturalNews) One of the most prominent vaccine scientists in the history of the vaccine industry -- a Merck scientist -- made a recording where he openly admits that vaccines given to Americans were contaminated with leukemia and cancer viruses.

In response, his colleagues (who are also recorded here) break out into laughter and seem to think it's hilarious. They then suggest that because these vaccines are first tested in Russia, they will help the U.S. win the Olympics because the Russian athletes will all be "loaded down with tumors." (Thus, they knew these vaccines caused cancer in humans.)

This isn't some conspiracy theory -- these are the words of a top Merck scientist who probably had no idea that his recording would be widely reviewed across the internet (which didn't even exist when he made this recording). He probably thought this would remain a secret forever. When asked why this didn't get out to the press, he replied "Obviously you don't go out, this is a scientific affair within the scientific community."

In other words, vaccine scientists cover for vaccine scientists. They keep all their dirty secrets within their own circle of silence and don't reveal the truth about the contamination of their vaccines.

You can hear this interview at: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=13EAA...Here is the full transcript. (Thanks are due to Dr. Len Horowitz for finding this recording and making it publicly available.)

Transcript of audio interview with Dr. Maurice HillemanDr.

Len Horowitz: Listen now to the voice of the worlds leading vaccine expert Dr Maurice Hilleman, Chief of the Merck Pharmaceutical Company's vaccine division relay this problem he was having with imported monkeys. He best explains the origin of AIDS, but what you are about to hear was cut from any public disclosures.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: and I think that vaccines have to be considered the bargain basement technology for the 20th century.

Narrator: 50 years ago when Maurice Hilleman was a high school student in Miles City Montana, he hoped he might qualify as a management trainee for the local JC Penney's store. Instead he went on to pioneer more breakthroughs in vaccine research and development than anyone in the history of American medicine. Among the discoveries he made at Merck, are vaccines for mumps, rubella and measles…

Dr Edward Shorter: Tell me how you found SV40 and the polio vaccine.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: Well, that was at Merck. Yeah, I came to Merck. And uh, I was going to develop vaccines. And we had wild viruses in those days. You remember the wild monkey kidney viruses and so forth? And I finally after 6 months gave up and said that you cannot develop vaccines with these damn monkeys, we're finished and if I can't do something I'm going to quit, I'm not going to try it. So I went down to see Bill Mann at the zoo in Washington DC and I told Bill Mann, I said "look, I got a problem and I don't know what the hell to do." Bill Mann is a real bright guy. I said that these lousy monkeys are picking it up while being stored in the airports in transit, loading, off loading. He said, very simply, you go ahead and get your monkeys out of West Africa and get the African Green, bring them into Madrid unload them there, there is no other traffic there for animals, fly them into Philadelphia and pick them up. Or fly them into New York and pick them up, right off the airplane. So we brought African Greens in and I didn't know we were importing the AIDS virus at the time.

Miscellaneous background voices:…(laughter)… it was you who introduced the AIDS virus into the country. Now we know! (laughter) This is the real story! (laughter) What Merck won't do to develop a vaccine! (laughter)

Dr Maurice Hilleman: So what he did, he brought in, I mean we brought in those monkeys, I only had those and this was the solution because those monkeys didn't have the wild viruses but we…

Dr Edward Shorter: Wait, why didn't the greens have the wild viruses since they came from Africa?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …because they weren't, they weren't, they weren't being infected in these group holding things with all the other 40 different viruses…

Dr Edward Shorter: but they had the ones that they brought from the jungle though...

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …yeah, they had those, but those were relatively few what you do you have a gang housing you're going to have an epidemic transmission of infection in a confined space. So anyway, the greens came in and now we have these and were taking our stocks to clean them up and god now I'm discovering new viruses. So, I said Judas Priest. Well I got an invitation from the Sister Kinney Foundation which was the opposing foundation when it was the live virus…

Dr Edward Shorter: Ah, right…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: Yeah, they had jumped on the Sabin's band wagon and they had asked me to come down and give a talk at the Sister Kinney Foundation meeting and I saw it was an international meeting and god, what am I going to talk about? I know what I'm going to do, I'm going to talk about the detection of non detectable viruses as a topic.

Dr Albert Sabin …there were those who didn't want a live virus vaccine… (unintelligible) …concentrated all its efforts on getting more and more people to use the killed virus vaccine, while they were supporting me for research on the live viruses.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: So now I got to have something (laughter), you know that going to attract attention. And gee, I thought that damn SV40, I mean that damn vaculating agent that we have, I'm just going to pick that particular one, that virus has got to be in vaccines, it's got to be in the Sabin's vaccines so I quick tested it (laughter) and sure enough it was in there.

Dr Edward Shorter: I'll be damned

Dr Maurice Hilleman: … And so now…

Dr Edward Shorter: …so you just took stocks of Sabin's vaccines off the shelf here at Merck…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …yeah, well it had been made, it was made at Merck…

Dr Edward Shorter: You were making it for Sabin at this point?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …Yeah, it was made before I came…

Dr Edward Shorter: yeah, but at this point Sabin is still just doing massive field trials…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …uh huh

Dr Edward Shorter: okay,

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …in Russia and so forth. So I go down and I talked about the detection of non detectable viruses and told Albert, I said listen Albert you know you and I are good friends but I'm going to go down there and you're going to get upset. I'm going to talk about the virus that it's in your vaccine. You're going to get rid of the virus, don't worry about it, you're going to get rid of it… but umm, so of course Albert was very upset...

Dr Edward Shorter: What did he say?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …well he said basically, that this is just another obfuscation that's going to upset vaccines. I said well you know, you're absolutely right, but we have a new era here we have a new era of the detection and the important thing is to get rid of these viruses.

Dr Edward Shorter: Why would he call it an obfuscation if it was a virus that was contaminating the vaccine?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …well there are 40 different viruses in these vaccines anyway that we were inactivating and uh,

Dr Edward Shorter: but you weren't inactivating his though…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …no that's right, but yellow fever vaccine had leukemia virus in it and you know this was in the days of very crude science. So anyway I went down and talked to him and said well, why are you concerned about it? Well I said "I'll tell you what, I have a feeling in my bones that this virus is different, I don't know why to tell you this but I …(unintelligible) …I just think this virus will have some long term effects." And he said what? And I said "cancer". (laughter) I said Albert, you probably think I'm nuts, but I just have that feeling. Well in the meantime we had taken this virus and put it into monkeys and into hamsters. So we had this meeting and that was sort of the topic of the day and the jokes that were going around was that "gee, we would win the Olympics because the Russians would all be loaded down with tumors." (laughter) This was where the vaccine was being tested, this was where… so, uhh, and it really destroyed the meeting and it was sort of the topic. Well anyway…

Dr Edward Shorter: Was this the physicians… (unintelligible) …meeting in New York?

Dr Maurice Hilleman …well no, this was at Sister Kinney…

Dr Edward Shorter: Sister Kinney, right…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …and Del Becco (sp) got up and he foresaw problems with these kinds of agents.

Dr Edward Shorter: Why didn't this get out into the press?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …well, I guess it did I don't remember. We had no press release on it. Obviously you don't go out, this is a scientific affair within the scientific community…

Voice of news reporter: …an historic victory over a dread disease is dramatically unfolded at the U of Michigan. Here scientists usher in a new medical age with the monumental reports that prove that the Salk vaccine against crippling polio to be a sensational success. It's a day of triumph for 40 year old Dr. Jonas E Salk developer of the vaccine. He arrives here with Basil O'Connor the head of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis that financed the tests. Hundreds of reporters and scientists gathered from all over the nation gathered for the momentous announcement….

Dr Albert Sabin: …it was too much of a show, it was too much Hollywood. There was too much exaggeration and the impression in 1957 that was, no in 1954, that was given was that the problem had been solved , polio had been conquered.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …but, anyway we knew it was in our seed stock from making vaccines. That virus you see, is one in 10,000 particles is not an activated… (unintelligible) …it was good science at the time because that was what you did. You didn't worry about these wild viruses.

Dr Edward Shorter: So you discovered, it wasn't being inactivated in the Salk vaccine?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …Right. So then the next thing you know is, 3, 4 weeks after that we found that there were tumors popping up on these hamsters.

Dr. Len Horowitz: Despite AIDS and Leukemia suddenly becoming pandemic from "wild viruses" Hilleman said, this was "good science" at that time.

NaturalNews wishes to thank Dr. Len Horowitz for uncovering this interview from the national archives, and for getting it released so the public can learn the truth behind the deadly vaccine industry.Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/033584_Dr_Maurice_Hilleman_SV40.html#ixzz1YL2vNp5G
